BAM Membership Information
How do I join BAM/IAM?
You can join BAM at any of the group meetings that are held on the 1st. Wednesday of every month at Tally Ho Police Training Centre, Pershore Road, Edgbaston, Birmingham B5 7RN
You can download the IAM "Skills for Life" form, or apply online by clicking the link at the bottom of the page. You can also download the BAM Membership Form from this web site. Click on the relevant icon below to download the relevant forms, fill them in and send them to Jim Fallon at the address below together with 3 passport photographs.
How much does it cost?
New associates joining the IAM "Skills for Life" Scheme pay a one off fee of £139 which covers the IAM fee, test and 1st years membership. If you are an existing member of the IAM but are a new motor bike associate then you get a £30 discount. Annual fees are payable on a rolling renewal basis ie 12 months from your last renewal date and are as follows:
- BAM Full Member - £10
- BAM Associate Member - £12
After the first year all members must also pay their annual IAM subscription of £30.
What happens next?
Once your application has been received and processed you will be issued with an ID card and you will be contacted by one of the Area Coordinators. They will endeavour to allocate an individual Observer (tutor) for one to one tuition, however, as this is a voluntary organisation the time this can take will be variable depending upon availability of Observers. An £8 contribution per observed run is required to be paid to your Observer to cover expenses incurred.
Once you have submitted application forms and have been issued with your ID card you can attend the regular observed runs runs on Wednesday evenings (summer time only), Saturdays and Sundays that are open to all BAM associates and full members in addition to any arrangements you make with your alloted observer for one to one sessions. The dates and times for these are detailed in the BAM Newsletter, Forum or elswhere on this web site.
What do I get for my money?
You get the IAM test fee paid, 1 years IAM membership, 1 years BAM associate membership, a copy of "How to be a better rider - Advanced Motorcyling, the Essential Guide", a copy of The Highway Code and a framed certificate on passing the IAM Advanced Test.
As an associate member you can also attend the monthly group meetings and take part in all training runs and other various events.
What do I do when I pass my test?
On passing your test you become a full member and you are entitled to take part in all group Full Member Runs. Please let the Membership Secretary know your IAM number and return your ID card for an upgrade (or provide a new passport photo).
